Strike votes in Canadian public libraries

Even after the well publicized strike at the Toronto Public Library has been settled, other Canadian library workers are feeling the pressure and have responded with strike votes. The Regina Leader Post reports that the city’s public library workers voted on April 9th to give their negotiating committee a strike mandate. The workers of the Regina public library system are represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees and they have been without a contract since the end of 2009.

There is a similar situation at the Okanagan Regional Library in B.C., where members of CUPE Local 1123 have also voted for a strike mandate according to the Vernon Morning Star.
