Planning Committee Licensing Recommendations Deferred by City Council
Wednesday, 01 April 2009
At the request of city staff, the London City Council Monday night voted to refer the Planning Committee recommendations to staff for further refinement. After the March 24th public participation meeting, the Planning Committee adopted a recomendation to go forward with the licensing by-law but to increase the properties to be covered from properties with 5 or fewer units to properties with 7 or fewer unit (that is, properties continaing 5 or 6 rental units will now be covered).
The Planning Committee Report is here and the written submissions are here.
While the final adoption of the by-law will now be deferred for a few months, it seemed clear from council's discussion that there is strong support for the licensing by-law in spite of all of the pressure tactics from the housing industry.

Before coming to Western, I was a law librarian at the Boalt Hall Law Library at the University of California at Berkeley and before that I was in private law practice in California. My doctoral work in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA focused on information policy issues.
